Complaint

A listener complained that words by a panel-member which suggested Northern Ireland had 鈥渁lways been鈥 part of the UK were false and misleading, and should not have been allowed to go unchallenged.聽 The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of accuracy.

Outcome

In the ECU鈥檚 view, listeners in general would have understood 鈥渁濒飞补测蝉鈥 to refer to the timeframe relevant to the question the panellist was answering, which was about relations between Northern Ireland, the UK and the EU, rather than to the entire course of Irish history, and there was no serious prospect of their being misled.
