Complaint
A viewer complained of excessive attention to the Platinum Jubilee in this bulletin, and in the 大象传媒鈥檚 wider output, which amounted to bias in favour of the monarchy.
Outcome
Having considered the complaint in the light of the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality, the ECU judged that no issue of bias in fact arose.聽 The relevant guidelines do not require the range of perspectives or opinions to be covered in equal proportions either across the output or within individual programmes. They describe a requirement for 鈥渄耻别鈥 impartiality that is adequate and appropriate to the output, taking account of the subject and nature of the content, and the likely audience expectation.聽 That the coverage was principally celebratory in tone seemed to the ECU to be in keeping with the expectations of a large majority of the audience, and the extent of the coverage was a matter of news judgement rather than editorial standards.
