Complaint
Reporting from the scene of the massacre at Kfar Aza kibbutz, Jeremy Bowen said he had been told by an Israeli officer that a body which was covered had been beheaded, but that he had not seen this for himself.听 A viewer complained that this reflected anti-Israeli bias on Mr Bowen鈥檚 part because it implied the officer was lying.听 The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality.
Outcome
There is a fundamental distinction between reporting what one has been told and reporting what one has verified by oneself.听 Mr Bowen鈥檚 comment properly reflected that distinction, and meant only that the information he had been given was unverified by him, not that it was likely to be untrue.
