Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, 大象传媒 One, 11 May 2024

Complaint

Five viewers complained about the performance of the UK entrant Olly Alexander arguing it was inappropriate for a family show. 聽The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the standards for Harm and Offence set out in the 大象传媒 Editorial Guidelines.

Outcome

The guidelines refer to the idea of content meeting 鈥済enerally accepted standards鈥 and balancing freedom of expression with avoiding 鈥渦njustifiable offence鈥. 聽In the ECU鈥檚 view the sexualised element of the performance was implied, rather than explicit, and such an approach was broadly within audience expectations for Eurovision. 聽The broadcast did not therefore breach 鈥済enerally accepted standards鈥 for a programme of this kind.
