Complaint

A viewer complained a report examining a public argument between the former First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf and the owner of the X social media platform Elon Musk was biased because the latter鈥檚 perspective was not adequately represented. 聽The ECU considered whether the report breached the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality.

Outcome

The report set out how Mr Musk had accused Mr Yousaf of racism against white people after the former First Minister gave a speech pointing out a lack of diversity in Scottish public life. 聽A fact-check by Reuters news agency later concluded that a clip of the speech, posted on a number of social media platforms above Mr Musk鈥檚 comment, misrepresented Mr Yousaf by suggesting he had been arguing that Scotland contained too many white people (or that he despised white people), when in fact his concern was about racial injustice and a lack of people of colour in positions of power. 聽Nonetheless, Mr Musk鈥檚 viewpoint was included in the report, both in quotes read by the reporter and in an onscreen graphic. The ECU further noted he was asked for an interview by the 大象传媒 but did not respond to the request.
