Complaint
A listener complained that the programme gave an inaccurate and biased impression of the evidence relating to the potential benefits of wearing a cycle helmet.聽 The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of accuracy and impartiality.
Outcome
The programme made clear from the outset that the question of whether cycle helmets provide meaningful protection is hotly debated, 鈥渨ith strong opinions on each side of the debate鈥.聽 It went to include a range of views from expert sources, from those who believed cycle helmets provided benefits to those who doubted the claimed benefits and believed the focus should be on other ways of improving safety for cyclists.聽 It did not endorse the accuracy of any of the views expressed, and ended by noting the debate remained unresolved.聽 I the ECU鈥檚 judgement this was sufficient to meet the standards of accuracy and impartiality appropriate to a discussion of the topic.
