Complaint
A viewer complained this edition of The Context offered personal details about Israeli hostages, with the intention of humanising them in a manner which contrasted with the 大象传媒鈥檚 reporting on Palestinian victims of the conflict.聽 The ECU considered whether the programme met the 大象传媒 standards of due impartiality set out in the editorial guidelines.
Outcome
In the ECU鈥檚 view reflecting the personal impact of the conflict on those directly affected by the 7 October raids was not of itself problematic and due impartiality did not require precise equivalence of coverage on the Palestinian side. 聽The ECU noted the 大象传媒 had covered stories of Palestinian suffering on other occasions. Reminding audiences of the experiences of individuals on both sides of the conflict helped explain what was happening and what it meant, on a personal level and to the region more widely.
