Complaint
The panellists in this debate included the Palestinian academic and author Ghada Karmi and Daniel Levy, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations. A listener complained that, although he took them to be representing the Palestinian and Israeli viewpoints respectively, they both appeared to support a one-state solution, resulting in bias in favour of that position. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ´óÏó´«Ã½â€™s editorial standards of impartiality.
Outcome
Neither panellist was presented by the programme as speaking in a representative capacity, and it was not a requirement of impartiality that they should have disagreed about a one-state solution. As the case for a two-state solution was put by other contributors, the programme overall was duly impartial on that issue.
