Complaint
A viewer complained the programme gave a misleading impression of the amount of money which could be saved by ending universal free prescriptions in Scotland because it did not explain the potential costs involved in implementing an alternative system.聽 The ECU considered whether the programme met the requirements for accuracy set out in the 大象传媒 Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
The programme interviewed the Deputy First Minister and Finance Secretary, Shona Robison, ahead of the Scottish Budget.聽 She was asked about a number of issues including the possibility of introducing means testing for certain benefits currently provided free of charge.聽 The presenter cited prescriptions as one example of a universal benefit in Scotland and said this cost 拢1.5billion.聽 The ECU considered it was clear he was simply giving an example of how the Government might consider raising additional revenue and was not suggesting how the funding of prescriptions should change or who might pay in the future.聽 For this reason the ECU did not believe viewers would have been misled by the reference to the current cost.
