Complaint
An item on safety standards included an interview with an expert about the Government鈥檚 decision to extend CE mark recognition for businesses instead of switching to a new UKCA standard intended to replace it (the CE mark being an EU standard).聽 A listener complained that the interview was misleading because the crucial standards considerations for many products concerned performance, manufacturing processes, tolerances and other matters that are not predominantly safety-related.聽 The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
While accepting that the standards in question were not confined to issues of safety, the ECU noted that the focus of the item was not on safety as distinct from other considerations but on the implications of the decision to deploy an EU rather than a UK standard.聽 The interview was not misleading in that context.
