Complaint
A viewer complained it was inaccurate for the Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem to describe the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 as the 鈥渨orst massacre since the Holocaust鈥 and said this claim should have been challenged. The ECU considered whether the programme met the 大象传媒鈥檚 editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
The ECU recognised the complainant considered the statement in question to be inaccurate because more people have died in massacres since the Holocaust than were killed in the Hamas attack on Israel of 7 October.聽 However, in the ECU鈥檚 view it was clear from the context of the interview that the contributor was referring to massacres of Jewish people and not massacres more generally, so viewers would not have been misled.聽 In addition, the presenter pointed out the scale of the death and suffering in Gaza in her questioning to ensure the audience was aware of the losses on both sides.
