Here at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Cornwall website we love to hear from fans of Alex Parks. But now we have gone one better and organised for a lucky Cornish teenager the chance to interview her idol!

Fourteen-year-old Laura Snapes from Truro visited the Alex Parks website and sent us an email. Laura said how big a fan she was of the Fame Academy star and that it would be amazing to interview her.

Along with Polydor we decided to wave a few magic wands for this loyal Alex Parks fan, and on Wednesday 12th February at 11.25am Laura was sitting in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Cornwall news studio, with headsphones on and questions ready.

There was a nervous wait as the interview was delayed by ten minutes. Thankfully the phone at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Cornwall web desk rang at 11.35am. Alex was ready for her interview, and Laura couldn't wait to begin!

Laura had come along with 60 questions and managed to whizz through quite a lot of them, showing real promise as a young journalist.

As well as interviewing Alex, Laura also went on air on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Cornwall with David White and Denis Nightingale to talk about her interviewing experience.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Spotlight also filmed our young journo in action during the phone conversation with Alex!

So all in all it was a very exciting time for the Truro teenager who was involved in three different types of the media (radio, television and the website all in the space of one hour!) Laura missed out on a Biology test too, can it get any better!

Laura has written about her day with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Cornwall website:

After waking up at 5.30 and taking about 9 times the recommended amount of Rescue remedy, I was a bit (very) excited – not only about missing the biology test, but about being able to interview Alex Parks!!

I leapt around like a lunatic all morning until I arrived at Radio Cornwall
at 10:50. By this time, the butterflies had turned into dragons and there was the possibility that I could explode.

Everyone at Radio Cornwall was lovely, and very welcoming (no, they didnÂ’t pay me to say that), and the nerves started to subside (but only a little bit)!

When I went on live with David White at about 11.05, I started to think what a horrible person I was – answering questions on the spur of the moment has to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, why was I subjecting Alex to this?! Luckily, Alex (Full) and David made everything easier and I didn’t turn into the babbling wreck I could have been (I hope).

We finished on the air, and then went into the room where the interview was going to take place. The dragons had returned and this time they were breathing fire – I was face to face with a huge camera and was about to interview Cornwall’s finest export.

Finally, the call from London came through, Alex (Full) had a quick chat with Alex (Parks), and then it was my turn – aaarrgh! Despite sounding really down to earth in all her interviews, everyone says that when you finally get to talk to your favourite star, they never live up to your expectations. This was untrue – Alex was lovely and told me that she was equally scared!

I started working through my 60 questions and managed to
relax, even remembering to breathe. Amazingly, I asked all my questions and even thought of more - the red and black stripy hat is from Glastonbury, and she likes to practice singing her own songs in the shower.

Eventually, we had to hang up – the 10 minutes were over, and I’m still unsure whether I dreamt it or not. Alex (Full) and me had a quick chat, and then it was back on the radio again!

At 12.30, it sadly was time to go. I had a BRILLIANT day, thank you to everyone at Radio Cornwall who made this possible, and thank you also to Alex for answering all my questions, weÂ’re proud of you being CornwallÂ’s most famous whisperer as well.

Thanks for your great write up Laura, we're glad you enjoyed your day!
