Saturday 4th October
Blast reporter Alex Full went to the house to report on the Fame Academy final:

It was a bitterly cold evening and it even rained over the Fame Academy house, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the students, friends and family who tuned up to see the final of Fame Academy.

The Academy mansion, set in 5.5 acres of land in North London had been home to Alex, Alistair and Carolynne for nine weeks, but it all came to a brutal end on Saturday night when the singers were judged for the last time.

The programme started with the usual sing for survival. Alex was the last to perform, but her version of Tracy Chapman's 'Baby Can I Hold You Tonight' was so good, it made it difficult to remember what Carolynne and Alistair sang.

Whitby boy, Alistair, redeemed himself when he performed his favourite song from the series - 'Wherever You Go' by the Calling, but it wasn't enough to top Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful' performed by Alex. This was the song that got her a place in the Academy at the beginning of the series. And Carolynne belted out 'Underneath Your Clothes' by Shakira, which Richard Park liked.

The first show flew by and at 7.30 it was time to find out who would be leaving the house. After a long drawn out wait it was no surprise to hear that Carolynne would be the first to go.

With only Alistair and Alex left in the house, the second show was all theirs and they had fifty minutes to win as many public votes as they could.

The Cornish singer was luckily given John Lennon's 'Imagine' to perform, which is said to be one of the nation's favourite songs. This really helped he pull in the votes and she interpreted it in her unique way. Listen to the song in our report.

While the votes were being counted, Alistair and Alex joined forces for the final time to the Beatles 'Let It Be' which was introduced by Paul McCartney. The two young hopefuls gave their all and as the adrenaline kicked in they started to tremble.

The final results announcement was the most tense of them all. 4.5 million people had called in to vote. The reporters in the press tent all stood up clutching at their pens not daring to say a word. The studio audience became very quiet and stood looking on at Alex and Alistair who gripped each others hands waiting for the news. And then it came...the winner of this year's Fame Academy is...Alex!!

An almighty cheer was released from everyone involved. It could be hear from outside the house and in the press tents.

As the winner, Alex has now landed herself a million pound record contract, a spacious appartment in London, a sports car, a holiday for two and VIP tickets to this years events.

It wont be long before she's back on our radio's again!
