Video NationYou are in: Cornwall > Video Nation > Dawn Chorus Dawn Chorusby Martin Rule Every morning the birds put on a performance of astonishing musical purity and beauty - the dawn chorus. Most of the time we are all asleep in our beds and miss the chance to hear it.
The Helford River at dawn is a stunning place to stand.听Brackish water licks the mud flats down tree hung creeks.听The first rays of the sun caress your face and in your ears there is nothing but birdsong. Martin Rule is a keen amateur naturalist and sometimes leads dawn walks. Martin Rule In the woods near Tremayne Quay - an area made famous by Daphne du Maurier - it seems as though the modern world has been put on hold.听 There is no traffic noise, no mobile phones, just the stillness of dawn, then the gradual crescendo of the dawn chorus. It's the trilling of the tiny wren that dominates, despite the bird's diminutive stature.听 Also in the audio mix are robins, a chiff chaff, a pheasant and a wood pigeon. We also hear the pock pock of a woodpecker. It's certainly worth getting up early for. last updated: 18/07/2008 at 14:50 SEE ALSOYou are in: Cornwall > Video Nation > Dawn Chorus |
