Cornwall Surfing Correspondent Simon Alexander reports from the
line-up.
Alan
Stokes' decision not to defend his English title nearly paid dividends
for the Cornishman in Portugal.
Stokes narrowly missed out on a quarter-final place at the 1star
World Qualifying Series Buondi Caparica Pro.
The Newquay surfer finished third behind Portugal's Joao Antunes
at Costa da Caprica but still finished as the top Briton at the
contest.
Stokes, who also lost to Antunes in the previous round, picked up
100 world tour points for his equal 17th finish.
Welshman Nathan Phillips and Cornish pair Mark Harris and Jake Boex
bowed out in round two, Phillips looking the most impressive of
the trio.
France's dominated the final with Patrick Bevan and Frederic Robin
taking the top two places on the winners rostrum.
Spaniard Pablo Guitierrez was third.
