Arsenic and Old Lace

From the producers of The Shell Seekers and the director of The Woman In Black comes a brand new production of the classic screwball comedy Arsenic and Old Lace. Starring Angela Thorne (To the Manor Born), Brigit Forsyth (Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads) and Sylvester McCoy (Dr Who), Arsenic and Old Lace is one of the most hilarious and enduring thrillers ever to have been written.

The highly entertaining The Lady in the Van presents one of Britain's best loved and award winning actresses, Susan Hampshire, in the role of one of drama's most extraordinary characters.

When a decrepit Bedford van grinds to a halt opposite Alan Bennett's house, little does the writer suspect that its next parking place will be his own garden聟where its evil-smelling occupant is to remain for a further fifteen years! Alan Bennett's vivid observations of this hilarious situation create a wonderfully funny play.

In April, the Theatre Royal is very pleased to welcome The Young Vic Theatre Company who perform A Raisin In The Sun, the greatest play of the African American experience.

When the play arrived on Broadway in 1959 it won the New York Critic's Circle Award and transformed the theatre in the USA. The Young Vic's 2001 hugely successful production was the first time it had been seen in the UK for 15 years.

The Jungle Book
Look for the Bear Necessities in 2005

Three classic children's stories will be brought to life on stage. The Railway Children, The Jungle Book and The Witches are guaranteed to enthral children and adults alike.

In addition, two of Britain's brightest theatre companies, Travelling Light and Bristol Old Vic translate an award winning, wordless story from the page to the stage with an adaptation of Quentin's Blake's Clown.

The new spring programme also features some classic musicals including direct from a sell out West End season, Cole Porter's High Society.

Adapted from one of Hollywood's best loved movies and featuring 15 of Cole Porter's greatest songs including 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire', ' Swell Party' and 'Just One of Those Things', this production has been nominated for two Olivier Awards including Outstanding Musical Production.

Oozing with dark, disturbing theatricality, Mercury Fur marks Ridley's return to provocative and compelling territory.

In May, Stoning Mary sees the first collaboration between the Drum Theatre and the internationally renowned Royal Court Theatre. Written by Debbie Tucker Green who won the Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer in 2004, Stoning Mary will question issues faced by society today.
