The Knight Constantine

The Bolster Day procession and pageant kicked off on Sunday 1st May from the village and hostelries and finished at Chapel Porth cove where the reinactment of the story began. The Bolster Drummers and the Knight Sir Constantine led the procession in search of the giant.

Hundreds of people gathered on the cliff side to watch the giant, Bolster, make his appearance, bear his heart and face the challenge of local dignitaries and heroes.

The Bolster Day legend
The story of Bolster the giant begins with an evil giant who ate children and people at random. He makes his wife, Mrs Bolster carry boulders on her back day and night. The giant falls in love with a beautiful young girl called Agnes who steals his heart.

The Knight Sir Constantine and local dignitaries search for the Giant Bolster to face him in a fight to the death. He overcomes the challengers at Chapel Porth in a showdown. But it's young, sweet Agnes who finally topples the giant.

She asks him to fill a nearby pool with his blood to prove his love for her, knowing full well that there is a hole in the pool which runs out to the sea, finally killing the giant.

The annual Bolster day event is is great day out of the whole family and the nearby National Trust cafe and car park ensured the crowds were well looked after and catered for all day.
