BlastYou are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Blast > Full throttle action Dave Derry (DD Pics) Full throttle actionBy Blast sports reporter Navtej Johal Get ready to rev your engines for some high-octane, full throttle action at the Shakespeare County Raceway this August Bank Holiday, as the second annual Open Sport Nationals Drag Racing Championship comes to Warwickshire.
At the initial crack of the throttle these cars will out drag Lewis Hamilton鈥檚 McLaren Mercedes without any hesitation and with a closing speed of 210 miles per hour or more arrive at the finishing line in less than 6.5 seconds. Blink and you鈥檒l miss it. As well as being able to witness more than 250 Top Fuel Dragsters of monstrous proportions battling it out against each other as part of the championships, other highlights include former European champion Andy Carter offering photo opportunities and autograph signings, plus sideshows, kids entertainers, dodgem rides, hot rod car show, old school eighth mile drags and music to keep spectators entertained. Rupert Barnes (Eclipse Photos) Drag racing is renowned for its friendly, family atmosphere, helped by unrestricted access to the paddock where spectators can study some of the fastest-accelerating machines on earth and meet the people who race them. Previously known as Avon Park, Long Marston Airfield along with Shakespeare County Raceway will provide the perfect backdrop for this event due to its long association with motor sport dating back to the nineteen fifties when the former RAF runways echoed to the sounds of exotic pre-war Bentleys, Ferrari sports cars, Norton and BSA race bikes as they hurled themselves in pairs down a straight quarter of a mile sprint track. last updated: 09/08/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Blast > Full throttle action |
