Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) is a non-profit organisation that aims to fight increasing levels of racism around the world. LMHR believes in using music as a positive energy as a response to racism and what they believe to be fascist organisations. Music is PowerLMHR believes that their approach to music celebrates and embraces multiculturalism, diversity and culture, driving away racist and fascist behaviour.听 Love Music Hate Racism was set up in 2002 in response to rising levels of racism. The organisation has since grown to involve thousands of people, artists and bands. As it is through music that LMHR operates its goals, the organisation has successfully held over 400 events, from large outdoor festivals to parades and marches to local gigs and club nights. The support that LMHR has received has also been outstanding. As well as up and coming bands, supporters and contributors have included some important personalities such as The Enemy, Ms Dynamite, Hard -Fi, Babyshambles, Estelle, Roll Deep and Basement Jaxx. Local PassionCeri Dixon is the representative for Love Music Hate Racism in Coventry, and she鈥檚 been hard at work trying to promote equality, multiculturalism and diversity to the people of Coventry. 鈥淲e want to use the energy of the music scene to celebrate diversity and the multicultural society that we live in today. We want to involve people in anti-racist and anti-fascist activity,鈥 she explains. A group of students from Castle Sixth Form Centre in Kenilworth are planning a Love Music Hate Racism Festival in Abbey Fields at the end of August. Ceri explained that this is their own event, supported by Love Music Hate Racism in that it is for a common cause and that the project is providing support and equipment.
Help playing audio/video Ceri is also organising her own event, which is called Coventry鈥檚 Love Music Hate Racism Coventry Carnival, and it is very similar to the August Festival. They will both have live bands, food, workshops and activities. A motivated Ceri told of her passion for the organisation and the cause and says she, along with many others, wants to 鈥渃reate a national movement against racism and fascism through music,鈥 because music is a very good way to reach younger people. Get InvolvedCeri urges anyone who is interested in getting involved in the project or with any of the events, like helping promotions or manning the stalls to get in touch with her. Anyone can also hold their own event with the help of the project. Just get in touch!
