 |  | Fed up of hearing your grandma talking about how things were better when everyone grew their own food? Well, I'm afraid we're hereÌýto say she's got a point.
But don't worry, we're not suggesting you get an allotment or start digging up your local traffic island to plant sprouts.
Luckily, in Coventry and Warwickshire there are already plenty of top growers doing the hard work for us. And there's an award scheme to ensure we all get to hear about them.

With the recent debates about the airport expansion, fears have been raised about the amount of flights that come in and out of the country.
These aren't just you and I jetting around on our holidays, they also include the masses of imported food we fly in every day.
Of course this is fair enough for bananas and such like, but sometimes the imported food is just so you can choose to buy spuds from here or from South Africa, for example.

We're certain local is best for flavour and for the environment and economy.
To back up this view, awards are now being offered to chefs and cooks that use local food and drink in the area.
The Coventry and Warwickshire Food and Drink Awards are open to anyone that serves food to the public that incorporates local produce from within a 30-mile radius of Coventry and Warwickshire.
The awards were set up in 2001 and ever since the organisers have been building up a directory of Warwickshire traders that use local produce.
The directory currently includes 150 businesses selling a wide range of produce from locally brewed beer to ice cream, honey, cheese and wine.

Businesses selling their own local produce are now being encouraged to write to the Warwickshire Food Links directory compiler, Roger Dick.
If you know someone that should be included, ask them to send their address details, the type of produce they sell and its season.
These need to go to: Roger Dick at Warwickshire County Council on 01926 412709, or by email to rogerdick@warwickshire.gov.uk.
Roger Dick said: "Many local food producers are based on farms in rural areas and it can be hard to ensure that our food guide encompasses all of them.
"Restaurateurs, café owners and hoteliers are always pleasantly surprised when we tell them about the amount and range of local food and drink available."
