Recent good fortune with the weather on our broadcasts from Brolly's Garden continued for our June visit and the glorious sunshine and blue skies provided the perfect backdrop to the start of summer gardening.

Read on for more about our day in the garden and about who joined us on the day, including a nest of bees!

Bee-ing brave!
As well as the usual parade of special guests, specially-invited listners and, of course, Bob Brolly, Fran, expert Steve Brooks and the 大象传媒 team, we were joined by a nest of honey bees, who had made a home in the compost heap!

Naturally, the bees would have to be moved to a new home because the compost and local bee keeper Ken Edwards dropped in to show Bob the nest - and how the bees live - before taking them away to a new hive.

A jar of Edwards honey
Bob was very brave and donned all the protective gear a bee keeper could need, much to the amusement of everyone else.

Luckilly though, there were no mishaps as the drowsy bees were more interested in buzzing lazily around the garden than in stinging anybody.

The nest was fascinating, and Ken explained the difference between honey bees and just how different the flavours in supermarket and home-grown honey are.

He kindly let us taste some of his own honey and it was truly delicious!

Also on hand was sonneteer Arthur Kohn, whose verse this month coincidentally began with a mention of bees.

Here's hoping our little striped friends are happy in their new home!

A rose for a rose
The biggest star of this month's show was a new rose destined for the garden - the Soham rose, grown specially in memory of Soham school girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, who were killed last year.

Steve takes a closer look at the rose
Soham's Rose was the name of poem written by Holly's father Ken, who read it at a remembrance service at Ely Cathedral, held for the girls last August.

The rose, launched at the Chelsea Flower Show in May, is a gorgeous pearly pink colour and is a repeat flowerer that is easy to grow.

Harkness Roses, who bred the flower, are donating 25% of each rose sale to the Holly and Jessica Appeal Fund.
