Coventry's name is believed to derive from "Cofa's Tree". This tree grew at a crossroads which later became the site of Coventry Castle and is now Broadgate. So now we shop at that site every day, without even a thought for all that history!

The first Shakespearean festival was held in 1769. Organised by David Garrick, the popular three-day event was a financial disaster. But Stratford has hardly looked back since. The festival continues to be held annually, now as the birthday celebration weekend.
