The RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch takes place every year throughout the UK.

This year the RSPB want to make it the biggest birdwatch in the world, so we've got the details on how you can get involved

We've also got suggestions of where you can visit if the nature bug grabs your fancy and we've got news of an exciting new gardening project on 大象传媒 WM, plus you can attract our feathered friends with our bird cake recipe.

The importance of the Big Birdwatch

The watch is all about building up an important picture of how well our garden birds are doing.

Last year, the 2002 Big Garden Birdwatch was the biggest yet with 262,000 people (including 41,000 children) taking part over one weekend in January.

More than 150,000 gardens, parks or school grounds were watched and more than four million birds were counted.

All you need to do is spend one hour during the weekend of 25 - 26 January watching the birds in your garden, local park or school.

Just note down the largest number of each species you see at any one time.

It has to be the largest group number rather than the total number you see during the hour, because some birds may visit several times while you're watching.

You only need to record the birds in your garden, park or school grounds, too, and not the ones flying over.

It's as simple as that!

If you're not sure what birds are in your garden, the British Garden Birds website will help you identify them.

Follow the link on the left to visit the site.

To record your findings just log onto the RSPB website (linked on the left) where you'll find an online form to fill in.

Alternatively, you can call 0870 6010215 with your results.

Local visits
Parks

The area has lots of parks you can visit, either to join in the birdwatch or to walk off Sunday lunch! Follow the links on the left for information about some of them.

Falconry

If all this bird watching gives you a taste for feathered friends, then a trip to the falconry at Mary Arden's House in Stratford could be just what you need.

Follow the link on the left to see a gallery of their birds and to be in with a chance of winning some beautiful new bird stamps.

Garden centres

If peering into your garden for an hour reminds you of all those gardening jobs you need to do, then maybe you'll be in one of the area's garden centres by the end of the weekend!

If you can hold-off until next weekend, Ryton Organic Gardens just outside Coventry are holding an event for National Potato Day on 2 February.

Follow the link on the left for more information about the day.

Bob Brolly
大象传媒 WM's Bob Brolly, soon to be in the garden
Following the garden theme, 大象传媒 WM is launching a new gardening feature to Bob Brolly's afternoon show next Wednesday, 29 January.

The show is going to be broadcast live once a month from a garden in Stratford, where listeners can get the feel of the garden through the seasons and see it change here on the website.

Each month there will also be an array of interesting visitors to the garden.

Some you can expect to hear include: the Mayor Vince Seaman, some of the cast from the RSC's the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, a Madonna looky and soundly likey, Arthur the scribbling sonnet and more.

Three lucky 大象传媒 WM competition winners will also be in the garden for the launch.

Listen to 大象传媒 WM on 94.8, 104 and 103.7 FM to find out more.
