It聮s that dreaded day 聳 A level results! Whether you've bombed out or aced it, you may well not be sure what to do next.

This could be the time for careful thought
If your results are not what you hoped for and you can聮t meet your conditional offer grades, you can use the clearing system.

This will get you a university place, ideally this can either be at the place you want but on a slightly different course or can be the course you want at an alternative university.

It sounds mad, but rather like Blind Date but without Cilla, it just matches available university spaces with unattached applicants. And you could find your match made in heaven!

Local opportunities

Both Coventry University and the University of Warwick use the clearing system, so if your heart is set on the area, all is not lost.

Warwick only has a limited number of places available this year and many go in the first day or two of clearing.

We've been tipped off that if you want to study Engineering, History of Art and French or Chemistry, the University of Warwick want to hear from you. Call their dedicated hotline on 024 7653 3544 for help and information on all their courses.

Nationally, over 40,000 people each year find a place through clearing. The Clearing hotline is 0870 60 71 700

Delighted students opening their results
If you weren聮t really planning to go to university, but now your results show signs of genius, it聮s not too late to lap up the student lifestyle.

Both Coventry University and the University of Warwick are flexible about entry requirements. As a rough guide, if you聮ve got two A Levels at grade E or above, it聮s worth applying.

If you fancy giving it a go, contact UCAS straight away on 0870 112 2200 so you can go through clearing.

Shooting for the stars

It's a rollercoaster of emotions!
If you accepted an offer but then got better grades, you might want to consider aiming higher. In the system, you are committed to the offer you accepted before getting your results, but you can officially withdraw your acceptance.

This will mean reapplying through UCAS (usually the following year), which will give you the chance of trying for a university that聮s asking for higher grades.

It聮s a big decision, as you聮ll have to put all your student hopes on hold for a year 聳 and then go through all this again!
