Stumped is based during the 1999 cricket world cup and the simultaneous development of the Kargil war.
It traces the life of Raghav Seth an army major and his wife Reena (Raveena Tandon). Both live in a housing complex surrounded by crazy cricket fans.

But as usual there has to be someone who is always opposed to the nation's most favourite game. Included in this category are Mr Subramanium and his associate Latloo Singh.
So during the India-Sri Lanka match, both decide to cut the cable wire, to spoil everyone's enjoyment.
In the midst of the cricket mania, a holy man visits the housing complex.
He makes everyone aware that the strong interest they share in the world of cricket is insignificant in comparison to Raghav fighting for his country.

Soon events reach a turning point when Reena receives news of her husband, Major Raghav (Aly Khan) missing, presumed dead while her neighbours celebrate the home team's win.
In many ways, 'Stumped' is a story of exuberance and youth, fear and insecurities. The film makes comparison between cricketers going on the cricket field whilst on the other hand we have soldiers going to war.
The film takes a morbid and rather grim look at life as one family mourns over the death of their young son whilst another family celebrates India's victory in a cricket match.

Raveena has come a long way from her 1991 film debut in 'Pathar Ke Phool' to her glamorous transformation into a 'mast mast' girl in Mohra two years later.
After spending years in commercial Bollywood films she ventured into a new direction - art movies.
Her powerful performance in Kalpna Lajmi 's 'Daman' won her the National Award which she rightly deserved in 2001.
Now in 'Stumped', Raveena Tandon becomes producer for the first time.
The film also features the various cricket stars including Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Zahir Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid.
