Reading the billing for the Priory Theatre's next production, you begin to realise that they are working on something rather special and a little different!
The team have rehearsed hard for the production of Nunsense 2 - The Second Coming. The musical follows the five Little Sisters of Hoboken as they put on a show at their local school - with hilarious consequences.
But the thing that really sets this production apart from others is the fact that the cast and crew are virtually all female - a real rarity in amateur theatre!
All-female cast
Following the huge success of their stage performance at the Priory Theatre in 2001, in 'Nunsense' is it any surprise that the Sisters jumped at the chance to get 'back on the boards' with a sequel?

As well as the five nuns, the company's musical director, stage manager, head of costumes, props team and choreographer are all female.
In fact, the only non-females are lighting and sound technicians and the director, Stephen Boden. Co-incidentally he met one of the cast during rehearsals for Nunsense in 2001, and they've subsequently married!
The Priory theatre's director said: "We're going to be following the team over the next 5 - 6 weeks, as they rehearse and prepare and work towards the staging of their show, and then on into opening night."
A sequel in a theatre?
Although it's a sequel, which again is unusual in theatre, Nunsense 2 is also a production in its own right and it features new songs and lyrics.
In the story, all is going well for the band of excitable nuns, until a telegram arrives and the sisters receive an ominous phone call from some Franciscans.
From there on in it's madness and mayhem all the way!
All singing, all dancing, all female!

The show is all singing, all dancing and the cast are enjoying the challenge of learning new skills. As well as mastering complicated dance routines they're also rehearsing tricky harmonies, working with a puppet, learning to play a new instrument (an autoharp), doing origami with a veil, and learning to dance on roller-skates. Eat your heart out Starlight Express!
