Unfinished basket weaved in willow

Steve Fuller and his partner Simone Siegan travel across the country sharing their knowledge of the oldest craft in the land. Basket weaving is a skill Steve was taught by a farmer from Longtown 30 years ago.

After losing his job on a dairy farm Steve decided to carry on the basket making and make a living from selling them at craft fairs. Feeling that weaving wasn't considered to be an art, he and a friend who lived at the same commune began turning their creations into life-like sculptures of animals and other objects for the garden. Now, decades later, Steve is well known for his pigs, ducks, hearts and baskets by big names in the gardening world including Kim Wilde and Charlie Dimmock.

Despite working on Royal Horticultural Society shows such as Chelsea and Tatton and even knowing the Queen Mother has been a proud recipient of one of his baskets he still has aspirations of accepting an invitation to the Burning Man festival in Nevada.
