All About: Hallowed | 1ST EVER GIG: 23rd July at the Victoria Inn WHO'S INTERESTED IN YOUR MUSIC? Max: "Anyone who likes dancing - that's what it's about; people who jump around and have fun." OUR INFLUENCES ARE... Metallica Children of bodom Avenged Sevenfold Lamb of God AFI - Everything! |
Hallowed know the Derby music scene is interesting right now - Jonny Masters, the drummer of the band remarks that there are some "pretty good bands coming out" at the moment, while Alex Midgley, lead guitarist, says "You've always got kids going around in other bands' T-shirts." New kids on the block And so, enter 'Hallowed'; unlike the majority of newer bands this year, emo-fad bands are not listed as influences for their own music, but lead vocalist Adam Bastow compromises; "We don't avoid the emo scene because then they'll hate us and won't come to gigs." Tom Raynes, bassist, says "We want to appeal to everybody." Indeed, the question about them having a plan for the next 12 months catches them off guard - a year is a long time after all - in only the last five months, they've formed the band, recorded two songs and most recently of all - started playing live. "To get massive," answers rhythm guitarist Max Lawless, while Alex jokes "I don't wanna be working where I am now!" Adam says they want to try release an EP by the end of the year, as well as get the name out - everywhere, if they can. Playing live & flipsides "It puts you on the spot - but its like you're in a world of your own" | Jonny Masters |
"The only way it doesn't work out is if one of us dies." Tom says, a feeling reciprocated by the rest of the band. "If you've got a passion there's no way you're going to fail." Says Jonny, while Adam considers the flipside; "Hopefully, it will work out. It'd be amazing. It'd be a dream. The best thing ever." The excitement they get from playing live is evident in all of them - the question about the best thing about it is asked and Alex calls it "The feeling.", Adam - "The adrenaline" while Jonny says "It puts you on the spot - but its like you're in a world of your own." Adam says "When you see them [the crowd] singing your songs back - its just amazing." "Even if its just a pub!" Jonny concludes.

The band is modest about calling themselves 'better than anyone else' when that question is asked; Alex suggests "We just link." While Jonny offers "We play what people want us to - a lot of bands are following the trend of what other bands do - you can easily fall into the trap of 'being' another band." So Hallowed are invested in creating their own style and not simply copying others. Say 'Hi' to Hallowed The latter half of 2006 looks to be even busier for the band as they promise new recordings and hosting of a Halloween party at the Victoria Inn called 'Hallowed Halloween'. Above all, they hope people will check them out. Their approachable nature is evident just from talking with them, Adam even offers anyone "If you ever see us around, come say hello to us! We'll welcome you with open arms." |
