Princess Lydia's Lost Smile

Five-year-old Megan Cork from Ripley came up with this charming tale which represented Derbyshire in the East Midlands regional final.

There was once a beautiful princess called Lydia. She was very funny.

Princess Lydia was always smiling and she was very mischievous. She loved playing hide and seek with her friends because they could never find her!

Princess Lydia had two very special friends called Princess Megan and Princess Abbey.

They loved playing with Lydia because she was so funny and always made them laugh. Princess Lydia never stopped smiling.

One day, Princess Megan and Princess Abbey passed the castle where Lydia lived and they noticed her looking very upset.

"What's wrong?", said Megan.

"I can't find my smile! It's gone and I can't find it anywhere!", Lydia cried.

"Oh dear", said Abbey, "Don't worry, we'll help you look for it!"

The two princesses sat down on the grass. What could they do?

"I know!", said Megan, "Let's bring her favourite sweets!"

So they went to the shop and got Lydia the biggest lollipop they could find.

Still no smile.

Princess Lydia

"I know!", said Princess Abbey, "Let's play hide and seek!"

The little princess loved this but she kept getting found so this made her even more sad.

"We will have a teddy bears picnic", decided Princess Megan and Princess Abbey.

So they both made a lovely picnic with her favourite jam sandwiches.

The three princesses set off to Lydia's favourite parkwith teddy bears under their arms.

But still no smile!

Princess Lydia seemed to have really lost her beautiful smile!

"Oh what ever shall I do? I'll never smile again!" said Lydia.

Just then, both Princess Megan and Princess Abbey started to pull funny faces and tickle Princess Lydia.

All at once, the most wonderful thing happened.

What do you think it was?

Princess Lydia started to smile! A smile so big it went right from one ear to the other.

All three princesses span round and round in circles, it was so funny!

The princesses giggled and laughed until their cheeks ached with smiling so much.

Princess Lydia never did lose her smile again because her friends always knew where to find it!
