They are now celebrating being able to help - and they hope for a bright future. I can't tell you where this special place is, but it's not too far from Derby. Those who have used it have been referred by Social Services or the Housing Department and it has changed their lives. But they exist under constant threat from violence from unforgiving ex-partners and unrelenting former husbands. Celebrating 30 years... Women often come from difficult circumstances with children in tow and few belongings. Some comments over the last 30 years from women they have helped include: "Thank you for helping me with my injuries. We love you all for it..."; "How do you say thank you to a group of people who have been there every day for six months, who will listen, give advice, respect you for who you are..."; "Thank you all for giving me the strength to carry on... I came in here down and out, but I'm leaving with a lot of happy memories..." A refuge worker offers a light bite The 大象传媒 Bus joined them for their 30th Anniversary celebrations and some shared their stories. Below hear from four women about how they coped with their change in circumstances and how they ended up at the refuge and from Janet, the manager, about how she copes with such an emotional job.
