Big ScreenYou are in: Derby > Big Screen > Murder, love and heartbreak in the Market Place Murder, love and heartbreak in the Market PlaceThe tragedy of two star-crossed lovers will be performed live in the Market Place as the Royal Ballet comes to the Big Screen. Pack a picnic, grab a deckchair and make sure you're there for this exclusive event. The Big Screen will host an exclusive live relay from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden on June 1st. Come along and watch a free, world class performance as the Royal Ballet perform Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet in Derby's Market Place. The production tells the story of Shakespeare's enduring tragedy and is one of the most popular works in the company's repertory. The Sunday afternoon screening has been specially chosen to allow families to enjoy one of the most memorable and emotive scores in history. Prokofiev's music will sweep you off your feet, filling you with the passion and heartbreak of the star-crossed lovers. The event starts at 2.15pm. It'll be compered by 大象传媒 Radio Derby's听Alex Trelinski听and there'll be a performance by local dance outfit Dancetek.听The screen will go live to Covent Garden at听听 2.50pm and it's curtain up at 3.00pm. The ballet has two intervals and will last around 3 hours. The principle roles will be performed by Sarah Lamb and Viacheslav Samodurov. Romeo and Juliet The performance will be hosted by Derby born Deborah Bull. She's a Creative Director at the Royal Opera House and former Principle Dancer with the Royal Ballet. During the intervals we'll be going behind the scenes and you can text Deborah messages and questions. You could even say hello to another city as we'll be joining Big Screens around the UK who'll all be watching this performance.听 This event follows on from the success of last years screenings of the operas Tosca and Don Giovanni which were watched by a total of around 600 people. What to bring alongThe only places you can see this performance are at the Royal Opera House or on one of the Big Screens around the UK so this is an exclusive event. It doesn't matter if you've never seen a ballet before. This promises to be a spectacle that will keep you glued to the screen. See the spectacle in the Market Place Alcohol is not allowed in the Market Place so it's soft drinks only. There's no public seating so pack a picnic and bring a rug or even a table and chairs! If the sun's shining don't forget the sun tan lotion. All the city centre car parks will be open and there are public loo's by the Assembly Rooms Box Office. All you have to do is sit back and relax as this world class performance echoes through the city's streets.
