Today on 大象传媒 Radio Derby's Breakfast Show, Shane O'Connor announced that the former Rams star Gary Rowett is the Station's new football match summariser for the 2008/2009 season.

He will be joining match commentator Ross Fletcher as they follow Derby鈥檚 return to Championship football.

After retiring as a professional footballer through injury, he has not only achieved his Football Association coach qualification but is already an experienced summariser in both TV and radio. 听

He replaces former Derby County team mate Dean Sturridge, who has had to step down this season to focus on his coaching work.

Gary, who lives locally,听says: "I am really excited about commentating on the Rams, I have got some great memories of my time at the club.

"The return to the championship will mean exciting football. If the players have any sense of pride they will be determined to make a mends this season."

The first time listeners will be able to hear Gary in action as match summariser will be Saturday 9th August 2008 when Derby County face Doncaster Rovers at Pride Park Stadium.

Rams fans will also be able to chat with Gary after weekend games and he will also join Ross Fletcher for some of Monday night鈥檚 Sportscene Talk-Ins.

And as a player...

After starting his professional career with Cambridge United, Gary joined Derby County when he was signed by Jim Smith for 拢300,000 in 1995. He then helped the team win promotion to the Premiership alongside other Rams heroes Poom, Baiano, Eranio, Wanchope and Sturridge.

He left Derby County to join Birmingham City for 拢1 million in the summer of 1998 and also played for Everton, Leicester and Charlton.
