We recently reported how the hot dog was said to have been invented by Derby ex-pat Harry Stevens.

And did you know the annoying novelty tune 'Agadoo' was supposedly recorded by Black Lace after hearing the French original during a night out at 'Gossips', one of Derby's most popular nightclubs of the eighties.

  • Johnny Pearson, composer of theme tunes for 'All Creatures Great and Small' and 'Captain Pugwash' hails from Chesterfield.
  • Supermodel Caprice pays regular visits to a lingerie factory in Long Eaton to oversee design work on her underwear range.
  • Derby's UCI cinema (now called Odeon) holds the record for filling the largest container full of popcorn. The container was 19ft 6in in diameter and 19ft 1in in height and took staff at the UCI three days to achieve their record in August 1991.
  • Holmgate was home to what's thought to have been the world's oldest dog. Bella was 26 when she died in September 2008.
  • Actress Isy Suttie, who plays Dobbie in Channel Four sitcom 'Peep Show', comes from Matlock.
  • Comedian Lucy Porter last year claimed that everyone in Derby looked like a rapist. She later apologised live on 大象传媒 Radio Derby.
