Interview: Jason Donovan

The antipodean chart hunk enjoys a chat with 大象传媒 Radio Derby's very own fresh-faced heart-throb Ed George.

No eighties nostalgia-fest would be complete without mentioning the name of Jason Donovan.

After rising to fame as Scott Robinson in Neighbours, the clean-cut blonde kid embarked on a brief domination of the pop charts with a little help from Stock Aitken and Waterman.

After his music career faltered in the early nineties, Donovan spent several depressing years in the wilderness before re-emerging with an appearance on 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' and a starring role in ITV's Echo Beach.

Now he's about to release an album of fifties-sounding tracks and this month performed in Derby to mark the first birthday of the city's Westfield shopping centre.

Speaking to Ed George prior to going on stage, he said: "I've definitely penetrated the streets of Derby before. I tend to find audiences a lot more interesting up north."

"The live element of my work is something I particularly enjoy. I'm a personality performer and of course I make sure to include some well-known tracks from the eighties along with the new stuff."

During his interview with Ed, Jason talked about the ups and downs of his career and concluded he was more comfortable with who he is now than at any other time.

Hundreds of pop fans turned out to watch him perform favourites such as 'Too Many Broken Hearts' and 'Any Dream Will Do' at Westfield.

Jason said: "Playing live is exciting because you can't mess with live. People make mistakes and it's raw so it makes you more rounded as a performer.

"I'm going on tour on the back of this record and I'm definitely looking forward to that."
