Sooty, Richard, Sweep and Shane

He's a rather silly character whose loud squeaking and attention-seeking antics delight and irritate in equal measure.

But this week 大象传媒 Radio Derby's Shane O'Connor met his match when he welcomed the ever-popular puppet pairing of Sooty and Sweep onto his breakfast show.

The duo were in Derby with owner Richard Cadell to attend an auction of what's thought to be one of the first-ever Sooty puppets at the Mackworth Hotel.

Richard eventually paid 拢3,100 for the 1950s puppet which was owned by the niece of a 大象传媒 Television Centre receptionist who'd been given it by the show's founder Harry Corbett in 1962.

Shane whooped with delight as Sooty's noisy sidekick Sweep the Dog squeaked his way through the travel and weather updates on the breakfast show.

And his joy peaked when Sooty was brought out of his box and the group recited the show's old refrain of 'Izzy Wizzy Let's Get Busy!'.
