Introducing... Daniel Angelus

Alvaston's Daniel Angelus uses his dreams as inspiration for songs and is planning to tour the US next year.

What's your name and where do you come from?

My name's Daniel Angelus and I'm from Alvaston, Derby.

What do you sound like?

An orgasmic clash of electro/new wave/glam/pop with a raw unique rock vocal reminiscent of David Bowie.

Who are your influences?

My main influences are Marc Bolan, Orchestral Manouveres in the Dark, Shiny Toy Guns and Ultravox to name a few.

My main influences lyrically and passionately are dreams I have and my life experience and the experiences of those around me. Being aware of my surroundings helps me to write a lot easier.

Tell us about some of your best songs...

My debut album was released in March 2008 and although the album was from a fresh unheard artist one particular song called 'Streets' caught the attention of a radio station in the USA. The show played Streets.

The song was a harsh and honest depiction of my childhood and what I witnessed. The finesse and resolve of the song was picked up by people across the UK and it became my most popular song.

On my new six-track mini-album out on 1 January 2009 the most popular songs are 'Neon Sex' & 'Rising'.

These songs are part of the story the new album follows about a war between machines and humans in my mind. The songs are powerful with stronger synth sounds and eclectic un-human noises.

One of the tracks 'Synthetic Heartbeats' features the battle cries and commands of a Candian Army Soldier amongst the explosions and turmoil in Afghanistan.

The footage was fed through a microphone and joined the rest of the intro to the track to create a harsh chaotic imagery in the minds of those listening before the track launches into its glam synth life.

Where can people watch you play live?

I'm playing at The Royal in Derby on 21 November, and the Big Blue Coffee Co. on the 18/19 December and the Victoria Inn on 21 December. I will be performing a US tour in late 2009.

You can also access all tour dates and live shows, read blogs and listen to the mini-album at my official site and my MySpace.

Anything else you might like to tell us about...

My passion for my music evolves from the happiness it brings. My live shows are energetic and fuelled with the desire to feel what im singing about.

My stage presence was once described as 'a younger Iggy Pop'. I however try my best to be myself. And never be afraid of how I look because how I feel will be felt and understood by a audience whos eyes are fixed.

Being a solo artist isn't easy. It can be lonely out there on stage with all the eyes looking at you judging your performance.

But for me?

I like to rebel and do things my way. I keep a tight show and I usually have company who play accordion or do spontaneous action before the show or stand looking perplexed and decadent.

These gimmicks allow me to get in the zone and feel separated from what's around me.

After a few slaps across the face and a huge roar I hit the stage and 30 minutes of sweat, tears and passion begin.

The audience can either feel uneasy and voyeuristic to this 21-year-old man on stage giving his everything or they can be totally engrossed as there foot taps and their hands come together. They will witness pure passion and determination.

My goal is to be the best I can be and be a life-changing musician and singer. I am blessed to go to the US and perform my music because the fanbase there demands it. I wouldn't dream of letting them down.

I am saving up so much money to go and perform for the beautiful people. My ultimate goal and one I will strive and work hard for is to be signed to a record label. But I feel I have to earn that.

So I am more than pleased and honoured to go out there and work extremely hard. The experiences are amazing.

I recently performed on a show with the likes of T'Pau and Musical Youth. Bands who I am honoured to be around and learn lots from.

Thank you dearly for reading!. :)
