BlastYou are in: Derby > Blast > Derby鈥檚 got DJ Talent Derby鈥檚 got DJ TalentBy Amy Byers, 大象传媒 Blast music reporter Young hopefuls from the local area are battling it out to win the Derby heat of a World DJ competition at The Royal in Derby. The competition is a Eurpoean House Music amateur DJ contest which aims to find and promote the best new DJ talent in the world, beginning its search of the UK with local play-offs in many cities and towns, including Derby. Thirteen countries will be taking part including Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK, making this competition the world鈥檚 largest search for the newest DJ talent.
Help playing audio/video Derby鈥檚 search began on Saturday, 25th July where four contestants took to the stage to try and wow the crowds with their CD and turntable skills. The second group of contestants are set to compete on Saturday, 1st August. Then the Derby heat final will take place on the Saturday, 15th August, where just one lucky DJ will win a place in the regional finals. The competition is for bedroom DJs who are looking to break into the DJ world and for those who are already established in their local area but want more exposure. The hopefuls must be over 18, must work alone and can only play house music. They will be judged on how well they mix each record into one another, their technical abilities such as using effects and tricks, their track selections and finally their charisma, for example,听 how they interact with the audience and the how the audience reacts to them. The organiser of the Derby heat of the Movida Corona World DJ competition, Dave James, gives his three top tips for success in the competition: 1. 鈥淜eep your music exciting and energetic as crowd reaction is a major part of the criteria and more importantly being successful as a DJ鈥. 2. 鈥淭ry and be as animated behind the decks as possible. If the crowd think you鈥檙e not enjoying it then they won鈥檛 be either, so you need to look as though you鈥檙e enjoying it as well. A lot of successful DJs are shy and introverted of the decks but when they are playing they are totally different people鈥. 3. 鈥淭ell all your mates and drum up as much interest as you can to come and support for you鈥. If one of Derby鈥檚 DJs goes on to win the regional finals, they have the chance to compete in the National finals and then in the Grand Finale, where they could win a number of spectacular prizes including playing four sessions at the House club Ministry of Sound in London and making their own CD. If you want to go along to support the Derby heat the events takes place at The Royal in Derby. Entry is free before midnight, then 拢5 after, or 拢3 with a flyer or 拢2 with NUS.last updated: 29/07/2009 at 15:45 |
