"The best job in the world" is how Howard describes his present position as presenter of 'Daybreak' on 大象传媒 Radio Devon.

"It's taken a long time to get here," he says, "...in fact more years than I care to mention.

"Since I was about 10-years-old, radio has been part of my world. I remember disappearing under the bedclothes to listen to Radio Luxembourg. Then I became hooked and decided that's what I wanted to do as a job."

Howard also practised at being a DJ by commandeering his aunt's radiogram - cueing up records and ruining a few styli in the process!!

Howard heralds from the east Midlands area and moved to Devon in the 1970s.

"Surprisingly I didn't get involved in real radio, opting for a job in the retail electrical industry instead," he says.

"Hospital Radio Exeter then came my way and I was presenting there for about 20 years from 1974.

"I still hankered for a job in 'real radio' until landing an evening position at the former Devonair station in Exeter, working behind the scenes.

Howard frequently reports from events in Devon.

"From there I moved on to commercial radio in north Devon and Somerset."

Howard's big break came around 1995 when he had a call to staff the phones for what was then the Late Night Sou'west programme.

"I still have time for my second love which is mobile DJ-ing across the county and believe it or not there's still time for my third love which is motoring," he says.
