After the excitement of her birth in front of a worldwide audience, everyone has been asking what the baby rhino at Paignton Zoo will be called. The female calf was born on Monday 5 March watched by thousands of dedicated followers on the 大象传媒 Devon webcam. Hundreds of people wrote in with suggested names for the new arrival after the zoo asked the public to help find an African influenced name.

The rhino keepers, Jason, Lucy and Louise, were given the tricky job of sifting through the list. After much deliberation they whittled it down to a shortlist of six and it was left to the public to vote for their favourite.听听 We can now reveal the most popular name was Zuri - a Swahili word meaning beautiful. Paignton Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling said: "Thousands of people voted via the Zoo's website and Zuri was the name that came out on top. "We'd like to thank the 大象传媒 for making this amazing project happen and everyone who has followed Sita's pregnancy and the birth of the calf so closely via the web cams. "I think the webcam has helped to raise awareness for rhino conservation and increased people's understanding of how zoos work to breed rare species." The shortlist of names: - Batuuli - Maiden
- Eshe - Life
- Hazina - Treasure
- Kibibi - Little lady
- Sekai - Laughter
- Zuri - Beautiful
