Jamie Rowland - Jam'd

Jamie Rowland - aka Jam'd

Jam'd

Jam'd is Jamie Rowland, a 16-year-old composer and musician from Plymouth. Take a listen to his ambient track, Nero Heaven.

Q: Tell us about yourself:
A: I've been playing keyboards since 1998 and guitar since 2006. I also play bass. I have been writing music since 2003. I have also played with various youth groups since 2001. Jam'd was the name allocated to me in a music project in 2002. I'm inspired by the landscape of Devon and the current music scene in the area - although Plymouth is too far south west to attract big names in music.

Q: Which three words best describe your music?
A: Chilled, electronic, variable.

Q: What has been your most memorable gig?
A: Playing at the Barefoot project as part of a youth group at the Pavilions in Plymouth, with an audience of 600-plus.

Q: Whose records do you have in your collection?
A: Air, Zero 7, Keane, The Prodigy, and Pendulum. I'd love to perform with Air - I saw their concert at Eden in 2004 and was lucky enough to be introduced to them.

Q: What do you think of the current music scene?
A: Growing popularity, particularly due to the rise in online access, has enabled increased exposure, giving opportunities to newcomers in many more genres.

Q: If you could have three guests to dinner, who would you invite?
A: Bill Bailey for laughs and musical interests; Mike Oldfield to talk music and technology; mum or dad to do the washing up!

Q: Tell us about the track you are auditioning.
A: It's called Nero Heaven - the title is a take on Zero 7 style. It took around two hours to compose and compete.

Q: Complete the sentence: "When I become famous…"
A: I would consider myself to be very fortunate.

Q: In your own words, sell yourself.
A: Hopefully, my music will be memorable to the listener and allow them to use their imagination.
