The Brittonioni Brothers

The grotesque Brittonioni Brothers

Invisible Bonfires

A hard-hitting message about global warming is delivered by the Devon-based theatre company Forkbeard Fantasy in its latest multi-media production at Exeter's Northcott Theatre.

One of Devon's most inventive theatre companies, Forkbeard Fantasy, confronts the difficult issue of climate change and humanity's disregard for the natural world in its latest production.

Invisible Bonfires mixes live stage action with film sequences and 3-D projections to create a surreal comedy with a hard-hitting environmental message.

It's running at Exeter's Northcott Theatre from Monday 28 January to Saturday 2 February 2008.

Characters with taps in their mouths

Visual trickery is Forkbeard's trademark

The play stars the Brittonioni Brothers, who jet in as part of a pan-global tour of international climate change conferences.

Powered entirely by horse power and hot air, the characters explore the subject of climate change through a series of apocalyptic topics - such as as the Evolution of The Carbon Weevil, the FairyAngel Conundrum and the coming of the new Plastic-ene Era.

The show is based on 'Rough Magyck', a play created by Forkbeard for the Royal Shakespeare Company's Complete Works Festival in 2006.

Founded in 1974, the company has been making comic theatre with film for over 30 years, perfecting its trademark visual trickery with ever more grotesque characters.

The timing of Invisible Bonfires has been given extra significance following the recent rise in concern about changing global weather patterns and the likely impact of climate change on future generations.
