Budding young playwrights and actors on Dartmoor will be performing two of their own plays at the 2008 Dartfest being staged in Moretonhampstead in December. Dartfest is a one-night event organised by the Dartmoor-based community theatre company, MED Theatre, and the young people are members of MED's Wild Nights Young Company. The youngsters have spent months writing and rehearsing the plays, which are stories based on Dartmoor. The plays will be performed at Moretonhampstead Parish Hall on Saturday 6 December. The first half of the evening will see a new one act play, called Deceased Truth - a detective story which explores themes such as murder, love, jealousy and vampires. Writing the plays is a team effort The second half features the comic play, Shakespeare on Dartmoor, which the Young Company first performed in September 2008. The students attend South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton, Okehampton Community College, and Stover School near Newton Abbot. MED Theatre's artistic director Mark Beeson explains how the plays evolve: "The youngsters come up with the plots as a group. "Then they go away and write their scenes, partly in our meeting place and partly on computers. "Then they have to piece the parts of the patchwork together. It seems to work well as a process." This is the second Dartfest and follows the successful inaugural event in 2007. The evening starts at 7.30pm on 6 December 2008. Tickets are 拢6 for adults and 拢4 for children and concessions.
