The White Lady

Two sisters, one lover and a haunting tale...The White Lady is a new radio play being broadcast by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Devon.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Devon is looking for The White Lady in a local castle.

A new radio play for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Devon is based on the haunting story of two sisters. Inspired by Berry Pomeroy Castle and its history, the play retells the legend of The White Lady.

Can you help us to tell this tale?

We're looking for local actors to work with us over the summer of 2009 to bring the story of The White Lady to life and to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Devon. The play is written by Teignmouth writer Eleanor Fossey.

Berry Pomeroy Castle - a perfect setting

The play centres on the story of two sisters – Margaret and Eleanor. It then follows them through their childhood and teenage rivalry into their lives as young adults, when their relationship is put under great strain by the arrival of a young man.

We are looking for five women and six men to portray the roles of the Pomeroy family and the troubadours, jesters and wise women who visit them at Berry Pomeroy Castle.Ìý

Auditions for this new radio play will take place on:

Tuesday 4 August 7.30pm-9.30
Thursday 6 August 7.30pm-9.30
Saturday 8 August 10.30am-12.30 and 2.30pm-4.30

The play will be rehearsed during August and recorded in September. Rehearsals and recordings will take place in locations in both Plymouth and Totnes.

The White Lady is produced by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Devon as part of the ´óÏó´«Ã½/Arts Council 'Made in England' project.

"We love producing plays for radio," said Sarah Solftley, assistant editor of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Devon.

"They are always based in the great stories of the county's history. This is a dramatic tale and one which we hope will excite local actors wanting to bring it to life on radio."

Based in the history of Berry Pomeroy Castle, the story is set in the late 1400s.

The White Lady refers to the legend of female ghosts who are said to haunt places following traumas in life. The legend exists all over the world and does feature in some stories about Berry Pomeroy.Ìý
