Connexions is a relatively new youth service providing advice,
guidance, support and personal development opportunities for
all 13 to 19-year-olds.
It brings together all the services that help young people
and gives young people access to a personal adviser, someone
to give impartial, honest and confidential advice.
Hugh
Gould, from Connexions Cornwall and Devon, offers advice and hints
on what to do next...
My
plans are in ruins... If you've been looking forward to a particular university
or college place for months, then finding out that you can’t
be accepted can be a terrible shock and disappointment....
I've
not got the grades I need... If
you’re holding an offer from a higher education institution,
but your grades are lower than they asked you for, then the
first thing to do is check with them....
I've
lost my University place..
You’ve lost both your firm and insurance offer places - but
don’t panic...
Where
can I find out about course vacancies?
They will be listed in
various newspapers and
on the internet...
How
do I apply through 'clearing'?
Some
vacancies will be filled almost as soon as they are advertised,
so it’s important to act quickly....
I
want to re-take
my A-levels
You
should think very carefully before deciding to do re-takes...
There
MUST be a mistake
mistakes
in exam marking are rare, but they do happen
What
are the other options apart from higher education?
Have
you considered Modern Apprenticeships or other non-academic
courses that could still get you to your goal?
