Part of the panel
The delights of the Dart Valley and the colourful creations of a Devon artist have been fused together at Greenway in the South Hams.

Brian Pollard has been commissioned by the local council to provide information panels at the estate which houses author Agatha Christie's former family home.

From the vantage point at the top of the hill the river Dart and the town of Dartmouth itself frame a magnificent vista.

Brian's enthusiasm for the project came after he had endured the very steep climb out of the car park. He became overawed by the rolling hills and meandering river and it inspired his portrayal of the natural landscape and its man-made features.

Brian Pollard is well known for his flamboyant and colourful pictures and he was unsure how they would look as information panels. But he had no cause for concern - they have been faithfully reproduced.

Primary Colours

He makes use of strong colour in his work and
applies multiple finishes of acrylic paint to create his unique style. The pictures then had to be scanned digitally before being converted into the fibreglass plaques.

Keith Rennels from South Hams District Council (SHDC) and Robyn Brown from the Greenway estate - which is owned by the National Trust - were also pleased with the results.

Keith commissioned Brian to produce the two new paintings to be incorporated into the colourful new information panels and says they aim to give visitors a visual treat as well as offering basic facts about the surroundings.

And Robyn pointed out that one key element was to try to encourage visitors to use means other than cars to access the delights at Greenway.
