Many of my early discoveries were made via John Peels radio show. I remember it was where I first heard Little Feats 'sailin'shoes' and Big Star.
The highlight for me, and that special 'Listenin'to Peel' moment, came when he played Caravan's 'For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night' in its entirety.
Does anyone else have a Peel moment?.

Listening to a very difficult Cat Power interview. Peel tried his very hardest to prise some information out of her but she kept giving these weird answers and was totally unresponsive. He obviously couldn't contain his frustration at one point and sounded well annoyed! It's pure gold. Luckily the dogs come running in which acts as a nice distraction "Out Nelly, Out!"

Music wasn't bad either smiley - winkeye

No music springs to mind, as I didn't listen to him much. What I liked is the fact that quite often he would accidentally play records at the wrong speed, and it never phased him. Some of the time you couldn't tell if it was meant to be like that anyway, (the joy of his sort of music I guess) but I enjoyed that side of his delivery a lot.

That quote about ELP being 'a waste of electricity' is always trotted out but I remember him being well into them for years - he loved a bit of prog did Peely. I remember him DJing over the Reading festival PA in the seventies, wittering on in his inimitable way, very funny dry comments that would make the waiting around less of a chore.

I went through phases. I got back into listening to him in the mid late - 80's. I had a great tape I made with the likes of A Witness, Bogshed, Volcano Suns, Sewer Zombies, Three Johns and lots of others.

Fell out of favour a few years later. From then on listened infrequently. Stepped on his foot once at gig in Bristol whilst watching "Movitone". Im not much good around famous telly/radio people. Vic Reeves told me to F'off when collecting glasses at a club.
