Some electronic, some ambient, some punk, some magnificent afro beat, some latin, even some listenable early 70s prog. If there had been a post punk and krautrock song too it would have been perfect.
I really liked the Advisory Circle, but am disappointed "Mind How You Go" is not available on CD. Nothing to play vinyl on, don't like MP3 downloads. Ghost Box Records - a CD PLEASE!
I wrote to Ghost Box, pleading, begging for a CD version, but to no avail. Perhaps if we all sobbed to them they might soften their hearts!
Advisory Circle are great, as were King Of Woolworths (Jon's previous incarnation) and Moon Wiring Club (he produces them), who make some of the creepiest (and best) wibbly electronica around.
Is there any reason not to simply buy the MP3 version and burn it to a CD?
An MP3 sounds pants through a decent Hi-Fi.
And I failed my Hippy Level 3 Exams in 1968 because "You're too materialistic, man" and I like having something nice to gawp at while I listen (even if my eyesight isn't up to a lot of the small writing these days)
Have to agree, this was a brilliant show, just Listening Again now for the 2nd time. I even liked the Metal Machine Music Trio track & I can't stand Lou Reed normally.
Well, I caved in. Downloaded the FLAC (lossless) version, converted it to WAV, burned a CD and made up a cover from the artwork provided. Took about 10 minutes.
No more tears.
Well, I caved in. Downloaded the FLAC (lossless) version, converted it to WAV, burned a CD and made up a cover from the artwork provided. Took about 10 minutes. Well, if there's a FLAC version to buy there's no problem. Just think: if you'd bought a CD you would have paid the fat cats of the recording industry several pounds for what took 10 minutes of your time.
On second thoughts, £6.32 is excessive for 8 tracks, particularly when two of them are under a minute long and only one is over 3 minutes.
£2 would be a reasonable price to download a full-length CD, given that almost every penny can go to creative contributors and not to management and retailers.
This Sunday was pretty great too - not just as we had some 20 Jazz Funk Greats (as much as I love 'Hot on the Heels of Love' that has been played on the FZ before - maybe something more caustic like 'Persuasion' or 'Six Six Sixties' would have been nicer?
Great to hear some Harvey Milk from that eponymous issue/reissue on Hydra Head - I do have some early stuff of theirs but the recording sounds a bit odd. This sounded much more like it...then again, I think HM should feature more often as they have made some great records - Special Wishes ought to be LP of the week as there is so much variety there around that stoner/sludge thing. From that 'I've Got a Love', 'Old Glory' and 'Mother's Day' would be the ideal selections (though the instrumental, the poppier songs like Once in a While/The End, and the more metal War would be great too).
Nice to hear some more Orff in the University of the strange, as well as the couple of tracks from Bustin' Out, the Gyratory Systems, and even Brand X (who aren't that far from Tortoise LOL!!).
