Very much enjoyed this festival and there were some fine acts that may appeal to the Children of the Freak Zone (if not already familiar). The standout performances were Joanna Newsom, These New Puritans, Tindersticks, Sleepy Sun (with sound problems), LoneLady, Sparrow & Workshop, Smoke Fairies, Flaming Lips, Field Music, Besnard Lakes, & Avi Buffalo...

    Did anyone else go?

Here are some reviews, Mr Maconie is mentioned in passing in one as I did catch him in the lit-tent with David Quantick. Very funny too...

Really enjoyed the Quantick & Maconie show. Just before that Rob Chapman in conversation with John Shuttleworth was equally entertaining talking about his biog of Syd Barrett.

Music highlights were Avi Buffalo, Girls, Race Horses, Flaming Lips, Simone Felice, Lone Wolf, Megafaun, Islet and John Grant.

Really hope they don't move it to a holiday camp next year.

Avi Buffalo were definitely a revelation - I was very surprised how much they rocked...much better as a three-piece and I believe several new songs were played...certainly one of the highlights. Sadly there were some clashes, but you can't have everything.

I think it was These New Puritans when the good prof was DJ'ing - he was great a few years ago when it kind of flooded and everyone sought sanctuary in the DJ-tent on the hill...

I'd heard the single and thought it was pleasant enough so kind of wandered in to Avi Buffalo not expecting a great deal and ended up transfixed by his guitar work. He's definitely a major talent.

Also, the sound in that tent was perfect and Green Man is so refreshingly free of 'talkers' you can enjoy the quiet bits.

2011 early bird tickets on sale at this year's prices available from 1/11 at the Green Man site, if anyone is thinking of going next year.

Particularly excited by Sic Alps, Suuns, Treefight For Sunlight, Cave Singers and Hannah Peel on the line-up so far for 2011.

I'd like to see Suuns, Robyn Hitchcock, Our Broken Garden and (maybe) the Low Anthem...but the bill so far hasn't very excited me (whereas last year there were loads of great acts I wanted to see - These New Puritans, LoneLady, Besnard Lakes, Field Music, Joanna Newsom, Sleepy Sun, Alisdair Roberts, Billy Bragg, Avi Buffalo, The Flaming Lips, Tindersticks etc). I'm sure there's plenty of interesting stuff to watch and The Green Man would be great...but I'm thinking I'll Be Your Mirror and The End of the Road instead....

The Green Man does have a few other names - Josh T Pearson being one...so am thinking Field Day in London (John Cale, Ariel Pink, Warpaint, The Horrrors etc) and then the Green Man...a few weeks later, Mosley Folk festival (Tinariwen, Pram, Michael Chapman, 9Bach, Gruff Rhys etc) and a day or so after that Public Enemy doing 'Fear of a Black Planet'... and a week or so after that Half Man Half Biscuit are playing Leamington on my birthday....So it looks like the 4th year in a row for the festival in Wales...
