    Hello

From Mid-August the plan is to continue playing new records, old records, and sessions and concerts from the archive and also to play a Peel Session in full each night.

That being the case, which Peel sessions would you like to hear?

    Thanks
    Gid

I'd plump for the Dr Feelgood session that includes "Route 66", FSK performing "I wish I could sprechen sie deutsch" or anything with Ivor Cutler or The Fall.

FSK? Well, I remember buying an LP by the group in Trier. I might as well have been asking for a record by Green Cheese and the Martians! The cover was frankly a bit saucy, though.

By googling I have just established something I didn't know: that "freiwillige Selbstkontrolle" (has to be pronounced in a Peely way as "fry willige Selbst Controller") (though "Kontrolle" rhymes with "font holler") which translates literally as "voluntary self-control" or "self-regulation" - is the German film censorship system, I think...

    I wouldn't mind hearing :

*Van Der Graaf Generator, 75 or 76
    *Wire, 1979
    *Palace Brothers, 1994
    *Jim O'Rourke, 1999
*Mudhoney, 2002 (is this where they covered Urban Guerilla by Hawkwind?)
    *Motorhead, 1978
*The Make Up, either of the two sessions. What a band!
    *Lift to Experience, 2001
    *The Kinks, 1974
    *Josef K, 1981
    *Henry Cow, 1975
    *Guided by Voices, 1996
    *Fugazi, 1988
    *The Electro Hippies, 1987
    *The Comsat Angels, any
    &
*Sonic Youth's Fall Peel Sessions (including the dire version of Victoria by the Kinks which MES & co had recently covered)

And I can guarantee folks that this US ex-pat ALWAYS gets general approval when he shows up
    unexpectedly on the car pod.

Pretty sure there's a Peel session or two hidden somewhere.

Hope they re-locate the DM Bob material Peta, don't you? It could be used to celebrate the German washing-line prop that's now being used to keep all our clothes away off the cold dark ground.
    For now.

I'd fancy the Stereolab session from 28/09/1993, featuring early-ish 'Lab in all their Neu!-worshipping musical finery. I find their motorik tunes optimistic and elevating, even when there's some dark message in the lyrics.

Also, how about the PJ Harvey sesh with 'Naked Cousin', 'Wang Dang Doodle' and 'Claudine'? It reminds me of when Peel took over Gary Davies' lunch time show and had it specified in his contract that he could play a track from 'Rid of Me' in each show. Even more fun than the actual music was Peel reading out the reactions of irate Simply Red fans.

I would love to hear the King of the Slums session from 12.4.88. They were a great band and one of those whose Peel Sessions were superior in many ways to their other releases. I taped the session off the Peel show and loved it but haven't heard it for about 20 years.

Not a Peel Session Gid but I recall the 747s doing a session for Janice Long when she was on the graveyard shift on Radio 2 about four or five years ago. I still can't fathom why they weren't substantially more successful than they were and that session is definitely worth hunting out if you can find it. Think it was 2006 but it may be 2007.

As far as I am aware the now defunct 747s have turned up as the bass player in Razorlight (Freddie - lead guitar and bass), the bass player with Alessi's Ark, (Ned - vocals, bass and keyboards), half of the Lost Brothers (Oisin - vocals and guitar), and I've absolutely no idea, (Massimo - drummer).

It would also be cool if you could add their cover of "Blue Christmas" to your Christmas playlist, (although I appreciate I'm ahead of the game by at least a month!). It can be found on the same Shelter album that the Joseph and Mary Chain track is on that I know you like so much!

    How about the Cravats ?

the one with 'You're Driving Me', no idea of the date but early 80's I reckon.

also was there a band called 'Peyr' or something like that, with Jaz Coleman on vocals ? - I'm sure they did a JPS - my mistake if they didnt.

my memory is not what it used to be!

There are so many!! The Bonzos, Joy Division, Vibrators, Fall, Chumbawamba (don't mock - great live band!), Kevin Coyne, Can, Passions, Yo La Tengo.

Having said that, a great live band that never quite managed to get it down on vinyl were Roogalator. I don't remember them on JP at the time, but it would be great to hear a "live" recording.

I reserve the right to mock Chumbawumba. An old flatmate of mine used to play their stuff a lot and I came close to throttling him for it. What saved him was the fact that he introduced me to The Smiths, The Fall and Fela Kuti.

    Hello there,
I'm sure sessions by Galaxie 500 or Felt must've been played, but I'd like to hear either, (or both!). There's a Galaxie 500 session where they did a cover of a Young Marble Giants song. That'd be great to hear.

Also, I'll add in requests for a 1969 Ivor Cutler session and a 1970 Kevin Ayers session, although maybe that's more Freak Zone territory? I don't know.

Anyway, loved hearing the Clientele session last week. And hearing my favourite Farmer Dave Beachwood Sparks song.

    Thanks.

I read the excellent Rough Trade-themed book Document & Eyewitness the other week and Gareth Sager from The Pop Group stated that their Peel Session recorded prior to Y was very influential on Echo & the Bunnymen and Joy Division and by the time they got to their debut, their sound had changed.

Are The Pop Group's Peel Sessions in the vault? Would love to hear some of that....

Remember What It Is That You Love
    Octopus Jr
From The City To The Sea
    Sandbag Your Heart

    LINE UP

    Kev (Drums)
    John (Bass)
    Tim (Guitar)
    Jelb (Guitar)
    Fred (Guitar, Vocals)

26/06/1990 - The Family Cat Peel Session 2

    Engineer - Martin Colley
    Engineer - Rupert Flindt

Also - Midway Still and Snuff!

Thanks for playing the cable session!
