This is the new thread for TAX synopsis. If you want the old thread it can be found here:

    Synopsis for Tuesday 17th May

Most of the action appears to take place on Sunday.

We hear Chris signing the contract with Chas (although it didn鈥檛 sound as if he has read it through). Chris is grateful to Chas, but Chas makes it clear that he鈥檇 do anything for ALICE and how she is a princess. Chris clearly feels uncomfortable. He wants to spend some time with Alice before he has to go back. He suggests going to the pub with Alice. Chas invites himself along, ignoring all Chris鈥 hints, and suggests they go to Bar 73. When Chris finally gets Alice away from Chas, he says that although he is grateful to Chas, he questions his motives and feels Chas is a bit of a gooseberry. Alice says they should just be grateful to Chas and look forward to the day when Chris owns the business and they can finally buy a place of their own.

Later, back in the student house, Pauli is doing pull-ups on the door frame. Chas gets Alice to tickle P, which she does, not realising the push-ups are a bet between them. C demands his fiver from P. Alice wants to thank C yet again. She is very grateful and so is Chris 鈥 even if he doesn鈥檛 show it. Chas says he has a lot of work on and drops hints about not having time to cook. Alice offers to come to his aid and puts a lot of effort into a chilli [How? Surely chilli is chilli!] Pauli, who is on his way to Brooke鈥檚 (gf), expresses surprise at Alice going to so much effort, especially when she has a viva tomorrow. When Chas emerges, he claims he鈥檚 done enough work and persuades Alice that they should have a relaxing evening together.

Jamie is finishing his shift at the Bull. He has washed up in record time. Rhys asks why he seems anxious. It鈥檚 because of the exams. He needs to revise. At that moment, Natalie phones. She has revision overload and needs rescuing. They walk in the park, sharing a fag and canoodling, getting heckled in the process. He is anxious to get back, but Nat persuades him to stay. She talks about her revision and he clearly doesn鈥檛 know half of what she鈥檚 talking about. She asks him if they鈥檝e done the same things at his school as they have at hers. He bluffs it.

Kirsty and Rhys are on their bike ride. She tries to wriggle out of it when her brakes need attention, but he sorts them out for her. She has fewer gears than him and finds the ride a struggle. She cycles through some nettles. She keeps trying to give up but he won鈥檛 let her and they finally make it to the pub: The Cases Altered(?) in Faircastle. Rhys apologises for having put her through it. She says she鈥檒l stick to bird watching in future. OK, says Rhys, I鈥檒l come with you on Tuesday. She鈥檚 a bit taken aback, but agrees!

    Thanks Pat, most appreciated.

What an idiot Alice (and Chris, for that matter) is turning into. Most people grow up whilst at university - it seems the opposite has happened to Alice

How can this story stay out of TA when it all goes belly up (as it's bound to do)?

    Hi all

Just caught up with yesterday's Ambridge Extra so thought I'd do my bit with the synopsis!

    Tayler

Marty and Jamie have just finished an exam 鈥 Jamie admits that he 鈥渄idn鈥檛 know how to answer half the questions". They discuss Natalie鈥檚 birthday which is coming up 鈥 Marty says she鈥檒l lose interest if Jamie doesn鈥檛 get her a decent present. But Jamie says he spends most of his earnings on taxis. Marty suggests he gets his mum to give him lifts instead but Jamie doesn鈥檛 want Kathy to know about Natalie. Later on, Jamie and Natalie are in town and Jamie鈥檚 annoyed about bumping into his 鈥渆mbarrassing鈥 mum, but Natalie鈥檚 ok with it. Jamie鈥檚 down about his his exams. Natalie suggests they revise together. Jamie doesn't sound too keen but Natalie says that at least they have her birthday to look forward to.

Over in Southampton, Paulie and Brooke (Paulie鈥檚 girlfriend) are in bed [I think] 鈥 Brooke is listening through the walls at Alice and Chaz giggling and chatting. Brooke says she suspects that Alice and Chaz are more than friends.

After Alice leaves the house, Chaz calls Reggie and leaves a menacing voicemail for him telling him he needs to pay up or else. Just as he ends the call, Brooke appears. Chaz thinks she overheard him on the phone, but she asks whether there鈥檚 anything to her suspicions about him and Alice - 鈥淚鈥檝e seen the way she looks at you鈥. Chaz implies that there is something to what she says but adds that 鈥渋t鈥檚 complicated鈥. He says that after Brian had an affair, Alice was looking for security 鈥 that Chris is 鈥渟afe and boring鈥 and Alice can 鈥減lay Wendy houses with him鈥.

Later on, Chaz shows up at Reggie鈥檚 to collect his money. Reggie introduces Chaz to his deep voiced big brother Leslie. From Chaz鈥檚 reaction, Leslie is more of a match for him. Chaz agrees to postpone Reggie鈥檚 payment for this month and collect next month鈥檚 as usual. When Chaz gets back to the house he鈥檚 clearly shaken. Alice, Paulie and Brooke are concerned. Chaz says it鈥檚 because he鈥檚 had a near miss in the car.

As promised, Kirsty takes Rhys bird watching. It鈥檚 all a bit awkward. Rhys doesn鈥檛 like it 鈥 about as much as Kirsty hated the bike ride! They finally admit to their dates being 鈥渁 disaster鈥 and that they鈥檙e 鈥渂etter off as mates鈥. Kisrty suggests that they get their own back on Fallon. Rhys says he鈥檚 鈥渦p for a bit of revenge鈥... dum de dum de dum....

    Thanks Tayler!

Looking forward to your return JPBS. I hope your having a lovely time with the grand child(ren).

    Pat.

I've typed up a synopsis and meanwhile Tayler has posted one, so I might as well add mine anyway...

    SYNOPSIS FOR THURSDAY 19TH MAY.

Most of the action seems to take place on Tuesday. Again there is a scene which dovetails with one on TA.

Jamie and Marty are coming out of their RS exam. Jamie says it was awful 鈥 worse than English. Marty says he doesn鈥檛 care 鈥 he doesn鈥檛 believe in God anyway. He reminds Jamie that it is Nat鈥檚 16th birthday next week 鈥 he鈥檇 better buy her a nice present or she鈥檒l lose interest. Jamie doesn鈥檛 have any money 鈥 he spends all his wages on taxi fares. Marty suggests going and finding Steve, but Jamie has an assignation with Natalie.

We hear Natalie and Jamie immediately after the embarrassing conversation with Kathy (as featured on TA). Nat asks which questions Jamie did, but he can鈥檛 remember. She鈥檚 surprised 鈥 he appears to have been doing a lot of revision. He admits he hardly did any over the weekend and anyway his notes are awful and he didn鈥檛 pay attention in lessons. She suggests they revise together. Won鈥檛 that be boring? He asks. Yes, but at least there鈥檚 her birthday to look forward to.

Brooke and Pauli are in his room. She isn鈥檛 giving him enough attention because she鈥檚 too busy eavesdropping on Chas and Alice. She鈥檚 convinced there is something going on between them. She puts on Pauli鈥檚 teeshirt and goes to confront Chas. Chas says he does like her, but it鈥檚 complicated. Because of the problems Brian and Jenny have had (including Brian鈥檚 affair), Alice wants to prove she can have the perfect marriage. Chris is safe, dependable and boring and thus perfect for 鈥減laying Wendy Houses with.鈥 He makes Brooke promise not to say anything to Alice.

Chas phones Reggie to demand his money. Reggie doesn鈥檛 answer, so Chas leaves a threatening message and then goes round to see him. Reggie introduces Chas to his brother, Lesley. Lesley turns out to be big and tough and more than a match for Chas! Chas 鈥榦ffers鈥 to waive this month鈥檚 payment and add it, interest free, to the end of the loan. As he runs from the flat with his tail between his legs, he shouts threats over his shoulder.

When he returns to the student house, he is visibly shaken, but pretends he has had a near-miss in the car. Alice offers to go and get him some beer from the shop, adding to Pauli and Brooke鈥檚 speculation.

Kirsty and Rhys鈥 bird-watching date goes as badly as the bike ride did. Rhys has come in just a teeshirt and is cold and bored. He tries snuggling up to her but she鈥檚 more interested in the ornithology. They both admit that the dates have been a disaster. They鈥檇 better just stay mates. They decide not to go back to the Bull, to avoid Fallon鈥檚 questions. Instead, they plan their revenge on her.

[synopsist鈥檚 note: it鈥檚 worth listening to this epi just to hear Chas getting his comeuppance!]

****Ambridge Extra Tues May 24 2011
The episode commences in The Bull with Jamie running out in a strop. He complains to Marty later on that Jolene has cut his hours and it is `all his Mum's fault' as she thinks he shouldn't be working in TB while his exams are on. He refuses Marty's invitation to go to his house and says he is going to Natalie's `to revise': when Marty expresses disbelief he tells him to `mind his own business'. However he gets Marty to back him up if he tells his mother he is at Marty's house.

Back at TB Fallon is asking Rhys about his date with Kirsty and encouraging him to `spill the beans'. Rhys convinces Fallon that the dates with Kirsty have been extremely successful and he is `so grateful' she pushed them together. There is `real chemistry ' between them and KIrsty has `opened up new worlds' to him. He gives Fallon completely the wrong impression as to what went on in the hide and makes her think it became a romantic occasion. In fact Kirsty has `fired an arrow straight through my heart'.

Back in Southampton Alice is waiting to get into the shower and is impatient with Chaz. Apparently he has been up all night studying then sleeps during the day. After he gets out she chats to him about their friends including `Jackie' who has packed up and suddenly `left Uni'. Chaz is extremely concerned about this and rushes off.

Later on she and Chaz chat about it and it is evident that Chaz has been talking to her house-mates about the matter. Why would she leave just before the end of her course? Exam pressures? Drugs? Boy friend trouble? None of these seem to convince Alice for Jackie's friends say that she has been looking stressed out for weeks. Alice seems to think the whole thing `quite scary really' and that `something is so wrong'. She wants Chaz to wait while they go home together but he is anxious and wants to get away.

We hear Alice interrupting a telephone conversation Chaz is beginning - Chaz is relieved when she goes. Chaz is phoning `Victor' and it becomes apparent that the two are brothers in law - Victor is married to Chaz's sister and has a job in the City. Victor threatens Chaz that `that job in the City' will not be Chaz's if the latter does not pay his debts. He is overdue a payment on a loan and Victor will not give him another week. They talk of the `big one' that Victor has loaned Chaz (evidentally the 拢16K for Chris's van) and Victor tells Chaz he will be doubling the interest on it. Chaz is evidentally very concerned about this but nevertheless promises to `get hold of the money somehow'.

In another scene in Borchester Steve tries to chat up Pip but she turns him down. After she has gone Steve boasts to Marty about his success with girls and then asks if Marty `wants excitement' . Apparently this consists of Marty and Steve engaging in some shoplifting - of games. They get away without being caught and discuss as to whether to ask Jamie to play one of the games with them. In the end they decide he has `gone soppy' over Natalie and Steve convinces Marty he is no longer interesting enough to be their friend.

Rhys tells Kirsty he has fooled Fallon about their relationship and that she is `pleased with herself' about it and has accepted an invitation to Kirsty's party. In Jaxx Spencer is waiting for Pip - she is late. Kirsty invites Pip and Spencer to her party but Pip is not keen. It is evident that Pip is very upset but will not discuss it with Spencer in spite of his encouraging her to do so. She tells him to `stop interrogating her' about it and that she has come out to forget about it.

Thanks JPBS. Hope the States was good.

What I really don't understand is why Fallon should be so keen to thrust Krusty and Rhys together and secondly why on earth they both don't just tell her that neither of them is the slightest bit interested in the other. Is it as ridiculous listening to this garbage as it is reading about it ? (A comment on the script, not on your synopsis, btw!)

And as for Alice - how dim can a girl get, fgs!

Is Pip just upset at the bust up between the Lizard and David or is it simething else do you think?

Far more ridiculous actually! I really cringed at Fallons pushing them together .

And as for Alice - how dim can a girl get, fgs!

Yes - very dim. Also surprised her uni friends didn't mock him for his smarminess. I can't think of anyone behaving as he does without him being a standing joke. I know they think he and Alice are a couple but even before that?

I really cringed at the scene when he told Alice she was a princess. The old Alice would have laughed in his face!!

Is Pip just upset at the bust up between the Lizard and David or is it simething else do you think?听

It's meant to be the row between Lizzie and David - am sure!

No - she wasn't mentioned in a previous epi I think. It was `Diane' and `Reg'. However I THINK that Chas mentioned her to Vic as owing him money . I didn't put it in the synopsis - I thought she had already been introduced in another episode and wasn't sure about the context

    Kirsty question.

She invited Spence and Pip to a party. Pip in a mood (I assume cos of the atmosphere at home) and Spence says something like (wondering if she had a problem about the party) 'you don't mind Kirsty's housemates do you?'

So ... WHO are Kirsty's housemates? I didn't know she had any!

    Or did I hear wong?

On the subject of Alice ... forget to comment ..

When Creepy Chaz was talking to Paulie's girlfriend (I think it was) in a previous episode, and she was asking him if there was something going on between them Creepy was giving the impression there was ... this girl - convinced that they are PERFECT for each other (ye gods) said .. and I quote 'I've seen the way she looks at you'

Funny comment. Surely it would probably be more accurate to say 'I've seen the way you look at HER' but she didn't say that.
Presumably that was just her romaticising about it.
Cos if that's what SHE sees, won't other people see it as well?!

    Welcome back, JPBS!

I've just checked the synopses: Jacqueline was first mentioned on 10th May (same day as Victor first appeared). Chas harassed her in a bar.

There seems one ambiguity in today's conversation between Chas and Victor: I heard it that it was the interest on the payment due next week, i.e the money owed by Jacqueline (and presumably Reggie) that was doubled, rather than that on the money loaned to Chris.

It's good to have a bit more background on Victor. I'm glad to hear he's a family member - he didn't sound entirely right as a Mr Big. It seems to me as if Chas' business may have started out the way it was initially portrayed i.e lending his student loan, before he used Victor's money to turn it into something more serious. A bit like those Ebayers who start out selling the contents of their garages and then graduate to buying in stuff to sell.

I think Kirsty's housemates' names MAY have been mentioned when she and Fallon were planning the infamous barbecue, but so many names were rattled off, I couldn't tell you who they were.

Finally, I loved the line tonight from Steve (or was it Marty?): That's why they call it BOREchester!

Thanks for clarifying Jackie Pat. I *knew* I'd heard her from somewhere ..

As to interest - Chaz asked Vic for a `special loan' for Chris and Alice. I thought there must be something extra-curicular in it for Vic (he hated Brian for example) but apparently not. As for the rate I heard it that it was the ROI for money lent to Chaz for Chris that was doubling . I may be wrong - doubtless we will find out!

PS THanks - yes I did enjoy myself - but the weather was extremely wet for several days .. stair-rods in fact. They had a very bad winter - trees were bare and no grass growing in mid-April. Everything luxuriant now - but still new. Tulips only just finished. I was staggered to get back to find ROSES growing - and I live in Yorkshire - unheard of in May!!!

    ***Ambridge Extra 26th May 2011*
Marty and Jamie are in a jewellers (?) shop and Marty persuades Jamie to shop-lift a bracelet as a present for Natalie. Apparently it is also a `test' to see if he is not `too soft' to be Steve and Marty's friend. Marty brags that he and Steve stole some games on a previous occasion.

It is Kirsty's party and she is still keeping up the pretence (to Fallon) that she and Rys are lovers and he has `stayed over' a number of times. Later on she announces they are engaged, are getting married `next week' and want Fallon to be bridesmaid. Fallon is disturbed about the `rapid romance' but still doesn't realise it was a wind-up and they have to tell her. They admit that they are incompatible and it was a joke.

Pip and Spencer turn up at the same party and it is evident that Pip is depressed. When they are on their own Kirsty explains to Spencer that it is not his fault that Pip is upset: it is the situation with her Dad having insisted that Nigel go on the roof that night and hence feeling himself responsible for Nigel's death. Kirsty tells Spencer that because of this her Aunt (Lizzie) is estranged from him. Spencer tells to Pip he knows about the situation and says he is always there for her.

Meanwhile in Southampton there are further developments over the `financial wizard' Chaz and his problems with his backers. He phones `Reggie' (?) and asks for money in advance - if he lets him have it he will reduce the interest rate. Alice finds him and he is anxious but puts it down to exams. Later on Chaz phones `Diane' and asks for money in advance of her usual payment date - his tone is rather different from when he menaced her previously.

Alice sees that Chaz is still anxious and tells him `don't worry finals will be over soon'. She tells him she is also feeling tired and she would like to go away with Chris - South Africa for example. She describes the beauty of that country and how she would love to be there. Chaz becomes angry at this and says he thought they wanted to buy a van? She apologises and says that Chris could probably not get the time off. After she has gone Chaz gets a phone call from `Mark' (apparently another of his `backers') who wants money...

Chaz aplogises to Alice and brings her a pastry - her favourite. He tells her he doesn't know what to do after Uni and will miss Alice. They give each other a hug and Chaz says her support means so much to him and they will get through the last weeks `together'.

Marty and a contrite Jamie talk together by the river. Jamie is feeling guilty over stealing the bracelet and feels he cannot give it to Nat - it is just `not right'. To Marty's disgust he throws the bracelet in the river. Marty tells Jamie that he has gone soft and that `Steve will think you are a loser'. Jamie says he doesn't care.

As Pip and Spence are a couple, I thought they turned up at the party together, and didn't just bump into each other there.

Cos on the Tuesday Spence mentioned them going to the party to Pip and her distracted reaction (she was brooding about troubles at home) was when he said something like 'You get on with Kirsty's housemates don't you?'

Pip and Spencer might well have arrived at the party together -
or may have met up there! From second listening (why do I
put myself through it?) Spencer lent KIrsty the ring when he got
to the party. As you said it was unbelievable
that Fallon wouldn't have twigged before.

I also couldn't make out Chaz's financial dealings.
He seemed to be asking Reg (?) for money as a
favour - also Diane. Both of these people had been
harassed by him. I imagine that `Mark' is another backer.

Am quite enjoying the Marty-Steve-Jamie-Nat thing!
It's the only reason I listen to TAX

Indeed. Like I said, as I was busy while listening to it this morhing, the whole loan shark thing - which needed concentratin I didn't have, to follow! - I found a bit confusing with requests for money seeming to involve half a dozen people!

It was like a money lending merry go round!
There was something comically ironic hearing the menacing loan shark begging for a loan from someone else!

Thanks for the excellent synopsis JPBS. Regarding Chas' financial dealings:

    1) I heard it as 'Rich' rather than 'Reg.' I thought he was trying to borrow some more money and Rich couldn't give as much as Chas wanted, but C didn't want to sound too desperate. The way he said "It will have to be at the lower rate of interest" implied he was borrowing, not lending.
    2) We haven't heard him harrass Diane. Diane was the one he offered a loan to the first time the loan sharking came up i.e. she was a new customer and therefore he was polite. The loan isn't repayable for three months, if memory serves me right (i.e. August), so he's rather trying it on, asking her to repay early.

Well on second listening I thought it might have been `Rich' rather than `Reg' but Chaz seemed to be stipulating the amount of interest so I thought - ah he's lending! No doubt we will find out ..

Yes - he is trying it on with `Diane' - offering her some unknown
    inducements to pay early

    Ta for feedback

    MAY 31st TAX

Alice and Chaz have stocked up on crisps and chocolate for their revision session. Alice asks Chaz how he is getting on and he tells her he can't concentrate. While they are talking his phone rings - it is Vic but Chaz refuses to talk to him, saying he is too busy. Later on we hear Alice talking to Chris on her phone about the new van which he has just bought - in fact he is sitting in it! Alice is thrilled at this - and especially so when Chris tells her Ronnie will give him the option of taking over the business when Ronnie retires. Chris tells her he still has the conversion to complete. Chaz interrupts the conversation - he is irritable - and they resume their revision. Alice reminisces about her time at University and appears regretful it is coming to an end.
However she enthuses about the van and the new business and how grateful they are to Chaz in lending them the money. Chaz reminds Alice about the future payment.

Victor is again on the phone to Chaz - who argues with him and tells him he will be paid `a sum of money on Wednesday' and will repay him then. He will also `chase up' Jacky who has disappeared. At the same time Alice is talking to Paulie about the van. He asks her `wouldn't you prefer a sports car' and she denies this and talks of the future she will have with Chris. Later on Paulie talks to Chaz and tells him he should `give up on Alice' and that she and `her farrier' are in love and just starting on their life together. Chaz denies there is anything between himself and Alice. Chaz has a phone call from Mark (another backer) who apparently wants money and Chaz asks him to `give me more time'.
    ****

Spencer is with Pip at Brookfield and they talk about the new puppy. While talking they see David and Josh practising `halter training'. Spencer asks about David and they talk of the problems with Eliz at LoLo. Spencer tells Pip that after the exams they can go to Barcelona for a holiday - for Pip couldn't go there with Izzie during Easter. She tells him she cannot afford it and doubts that she will get a job now during the summer at LoLo because of the situation between David and Eliz. She tells Spencer more about the accident and that `Dad made Uncle Nigel go on the roof'. However Nigel had wanted the banner down in the first place and her Dad had been a huge help to Eliz afterwards. Spencer tells her to `give it time' and asks her if she has spoken to Eliz since the row? She says she has been afraid to - and what has upset her is that she and Eliz were `so close' and that Eliz never judged her over the Jude affair. Eliz was `more like a friend' to her. Spencer suggests she speak to Elizabeth.

Jamie is at April Cottage, working when Marty phones him. He is disgusted when Jamie tells him he wants to revise - and then Steve joins in the conversation. They are both in the car and what is more they are outside April Cottage. Jamie feels harassed and joins them there. While they are travelling the others call him `a wuss' and say he is `not solid' with them. They refer to his being with Nat and wanting to revise; they then go on about the bracelet incident and say they want him to `prove himself' to them. He agrees to do so. THey stop by the river and say since he seems so fond of it he should cross on the stepping stones. He tells them the river is fast at that point and they jeer at him for `not wanting him to get his trainers wet'. They assure him they will cross after he has done so. He successfully crosses and they follow but it is evident that one of them has had difficulties with the crossing. However what to do next? They go off to play computer games.

    Thanks JPBS.

The river crossing was via the support struts under a bridge, so it was quite high up. Jamie managed it successfully, but Marty was deemed to be too slow. Steve and Jamie threw stones at him and goaded him into jumping in. I couldn't tell whether they threw stones because he was too slow, or he was slow because they were throwing stones. Marty didn't like the tables being turned on him and he began to get agressive towards Jamie, until Steve intervened.

Rather makes you wonder if Jamie will EVER figure out that friends who do nothing but put you down and make you feel bad, might be people you could do without in your life, doesn't it? Surely there a couple of other people he spends time with who don't spend the whole time treating him like crap? Even if the "nicer" people aren't close friends, he's old enough to notice the contrast and start to realize what's more fun - doing something with acquaintances who let you enjoy yourself, or barely avoiding arrest with mates who act like they hate you?

Unexpectedly, I have had time to do a synopsis after all:

    SYNOPSIS FOR 2ND JUNE:

Jamie is out with the lads. They can鈥檛 decide what to do. Jamie suggests meeting with Nat who is in the pub with her mates, but Marty and Steve are very disparaging about Chloe and (Zoe? Sorry can鈥檛 remember other name) and don鈥檛 want to spend the whole evening watching Jamie and Natalie getting amorous. Instead, they go to a derelict factory near the cattle market, smash its windows and go inside. They are about to burn a dressmaker鈥檚 dummy and do some graffiti when they hear a security guard with his dog. As they flee, Jamie cuts his hand. They bump into Natalie who is concerned for Jamie鈥檚 hand and wants him to come to the pub, but buckling under the other two鈥檚 taunts, he dismisses her rather rudely and mysoginistically.

The next day, Jamie and Natalie are in the pub. He apologises for the thing he said yesterday: he doesn鈥檛 mean them, he just can鈥檛 resist the pressure from the lads. Then don鈥檛 hang around with them, she replies. He could have damaged his writing hand. There鈥檚 only two more weeks of exams 鈥 he can do what he likes after that.

Pip goes to see Elizabeth. Elizabeth is more than happy to give her a summer job. Pip then tries to talk about how upset the whole family is (including Jill and Ruth) about the rift between David and Elizabeth. Can鈥檛 they make it up? David is distraught. No replies, Elizabeth calmly. She cannot forgive David, although that does not affect her relationship with her niece.

The following day she is with Spencer in Jaxx. He tries to give her comfort. Kirsty is more concerned about Fallon. F is not returning K鈥檚 calls and K suspects she鈥檚 upset over the 鈥榚ngagement.鈥 Later she gets hold of Nic who confirms this (off air). Kirsty will have to make it up to Fallon, but how?

Chas is trying chase his money up. Diane does not answer her phone so he grovels to her voice male: even a part payment would help. He calls Reggie and demands his payment 鈥 it was due on the first. He is threatening and very rude about 鈥榶our knuckle-brained brother鈥 only to discover he was actually talking to the Knuckle-brained brother! Reggie doesn鈥檛 have the money yet. Leslie hangs up before Chas can ascertain when the payment is coming.

Chas rings Jacqui鈥檚 mum. She is reluctant to talk 鈥 she has been told not to speak to anyone, but Chas manages to convincer her that he is a concerned friend. She rings off when her husband calls her, asking Chas not to ring again, but later she phones back. She asks Chas more about himself. He explains they were close friends 鈥淲e told each other everything鈥 but over the last few months he鈥檇 got worried because she鈥檇 stopped telling him things. She says they don鈥檛 know what the problem is and can鈥檛 persuade her to come home. Finally Chas manages to get an address out of her, in Newcastle. He promises to go and see her at the weekend.

I wonder if Jamie's just gone up a step in the pecking order as Marty was such a duffer. 听 There has certainly been an adjustment in their relative merit, especially as Jamie crossed the bridge with such aplomb, but it is a more complex relationship than simply moving up and down the ranks. They are really quite horrible and disrespectful to EVERYONE, including themselves. I'm surprised Natalie didn't squeeze Jamie's injured hand and tell him to briefcase off, the way he spoke to her today!

As for realising who his friends are, it is a very difficult lesson to learn. I was 19 and in my first year at univ when I realised my so-called friends were actually bullying me and I needed to report them to the university authorities. I hope that Nat and Dan, by being good friends to Jamie, can help him see the error of his ways. It won't take much - I feel he is on the cusp at present. Very realistic!
